What’s on the horizon?

Sml Bulbs in Jar © Andrés Nieto PorrasIn 2015 we will examine ideas for possible new projects to tackle social injustices, areas where Commonweal Housing’s unique approach might help to make a real difference.

Release on temporary licence
We want to level the playing field so that all prisoners who are eligible for temporary release are given the opportunity to do so. Release overnight to a few days allows prisoners to prepare for a life free of crime at the end of their sentence. At the moment those that don’t have a suitable address to give or place to stay are denied this opportunity.

Buying a future
Making the transition from state benefits into a fully paid job is not always as easy as it sounds. The extra costs associated with working – such as travel, clothing and council tax can take a huge chunk out of those early wage packets. At the time when benefits are slashed because you are in a job – this double whammy means some people will struggle to stay employed or pay their rent. This project would help these people with savings, reduced rent and support needed to be successful in their new independent life.

Keep an eye on the website for further details of new projects in 2015 as they are developed.
