Commonweal offering funding to develop housing models for at-risk youth

Commonweal Housing today opens Call for New Ideas 2026, inviting organisations to propose innovative housing models that could improve outcomes for young people experiencing difficult transitions into adulthood.
Successful applicants will receive grant funding to undertake a feasibility study to explore whether their proposal could become a future Commonweal property-based pilot project. Funding is available for Commonweal to sponsor up to four feasibility studies, typically awarding between £5,000 and £8,000 per study.
We are looking for organisations that understand the challenges facing young people and have bold ideas about how housing, combined with appropriate support, could make a lasting difference.
We are particularly keen to receive applications from organisations working in Wales and Scotland, alongside applications from England. We will not be accepting applications from Northern Ireland for this call.
Commonweal aims for pilots to have impact far beyond their initial support for residents. Proposals could illustrate how learnings from a potential partnership would be fed back into the sector, and how the idea or model would be scaled and replicated.
We are particularly interested in ideas supporting young people aged 16 and over who have experienced:
• Care
• Homelessness or housing insecurity
• Contact with the criminal justice system
• Neurodivergence
• Mental ill health (where intensive clinical support is not required)
• Exclusion from education
• Exploitation or abuse
• Other significant barriers to a successful transition into adulthood
These examples are not exhaustive. We welcome proposals addressing other overlooked transition points where housing could play a meaningful role in improving outcomes for at-risk youth.
Applications are open until Friday 16th October 2026.
